The Story Behind The Story
Alternate is an idea I have been working on in the background for years. Starting off as a writing project for a class in high school, the lore and story of Alternate becomes denser by the day.
The first draft of the first feature film in the franchise is already being written by myself and a good friend of mine. As time goes on and the project takes on a bigger and clearer shape we hope to hire more people to help us work on this.
Why Call it "Alternate"?
What sets this franchise from apart from many others is how it plays with the idea of alternate realities and alternate timelines. Some characters have the ability to communicate with versions of themselves from other universes, splits in time or dimensions beyond human comprehension. Some can take this power a couple of steps further.
What Progress Has Been Made So Far?
As I've stated before the script for the first feature film in the franchise is still being written. However, there's is more than just films in the works. The original handwritten journal of the main character was finished as part of that initial school project. This journal may or may not be published into a book in the future. It is the first part to Alternate, chronologically speaking.
In 2016 I made a quick 2 minute video showing off a small proof of concept I had made as to the general tone and fell of the franchise. This video however had to be taken down for unrelated reasons. I do still have the project file and exports so I may remaster and rerelease this sometime in the future.
A side story may also be in the works in the form of a novel that takes place alongside the events of the film, however this is still in the concept phase.
Anything Else You Can Reveal About The Project?
Sadly at this time no. This project is currently taking a backseat as I try to find a stable enough job to keep the lights on and allow me the time to really dedicate my heart and soul into bringing this project to life. All I can offer for now is these other images from other concepts I played around with. Finding the right medium to tell the story is extremely difficult. The "anime/yu-gi-oh" style drawing was just something my girlfriend was playing around with when I first told her about the idea. She loves to draw and she sent it to me literally a day later. The rest are from both the proof of concept video I made and other screen grabs from discarded proof of concept videos I never finished.
